These Terms of Service ("Terms") represent a binding legal agreement between you and TippedIn regarding your use of the TippedIn platform, websites, and associated infrastructure. By accessing, registering for, or using our services, you expressly acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these comprehensive terms.
1. User Roles: Creators and Viewers
TippedIn serves two distinct types of users: Creators (who receive tips) and Viewers (who send tips). You must be at least 13 years of age to utilize the platform in any capacity.
- For Viewers (Tippers): Viewers do not need to create an account on TippedIn to send a tip. TippedIn never touches, custodies, or has access to your money, accounts, or private keys. You interact with the platform entirely autonomously through MiniPay to send funds directly peer-to-peer to the Creator.
- For Creators: Creators register for a profile which provisions a non-custodial Celo wallet secured by two independent factors: a device Passkey (biometric) and a security question answer. TippedIn cannot access your funds, override your keys, or recover your wallet. You are solely responsible for maintaining access to at least one of your two recovery factors and for compliance with local tax laws.
2. Wallet Security & Your Responsibilities
TippedIn provisions each creator with a self-custodial wallet using a cryptographic scheme (Shamir's Secret Sharing). Your private key is split into three encrypted shards — none of which, individually, grants wallet access. Two shards are required to reconstruct your key.
Your two recovery factors
- Passkey (biometric): Your device's FaceID or fingerprint. Unlocks your wallet instantly on the same device.
- Security Question Answer: The answer you set during account creation. Used to regain access on a new device or if your passkey is lost. Your answer is never stored — it is used only to derive a cryptographic key on your device.
You need at least one to access your wallet
Either your Passkey or your security answer is sufficient to unlock your wallet alongside the server-held shard. If you permanently lose access to both factors, TippedIn cannot recover your wallet or the funds within it.
⚠️ Key Loss is Permanent
TippedIn holds one encrypted shard but not the keys to decrypt it. We cannot impersonate you, move your funds, or restore access if both your passkey and security answer are lost. Please remember your security answer.
3. Tipping & Blockchain Finality
TippedIn functions exclusively as a routing and notification interface built atop the Celo blockchain. We do not act as an intermediary, custodian, escrow agent, or financial institution.
Due to the cryptographic nature of blockchain networks, all transactions are strictly non-refundable and irreversible once confirmed. TippedIn possesses no technical mechanism to reverse, refund, or cancel a tip.
Viewers are solely responsible for ensuring they are transacting with the correct creator address. TippedIn is immune from liability regarding user-input errors resulting in lost funds.
4. Prohibited Conduct & Content
You agree not to engage in any activity that negatively impacts the platform's integrity or violates applicable law. The following behaviors will result in immediate, permanent account termination and potential reporting to relevant authorities:
- Facilitating money laundering, terrorist financing, or sanctions evasion.
- Utilizing the platform for the sale of illegal narcotics, weapons, or illicit digital goods.
- Engaging in fraudulent chargeback schemes via connected fiat-on-ramps.
- Distributing malware, executing Sybil attacks, or attempting to exploit TippedIn's smart contracts or backend infrastructure.
- Harassment, doxxing, or distributing non-consensual explicit media via the tip messaging system.
5. Intellectual Property
All branding, codebase, visual assets, and proprietary mechanics constituting the TippedIn platform are the exclusive property of TippedIn. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to utilize our OBS alerts and dashboard tools strictly for their intended purpose. You retain full ownership of any content you broadcast on external platforms (e.g., Twitch, YouTube) while utilizing our services.
6. Limitation of Liability & Disclaimers
The TippedIn services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without any warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, TippedIn expressly disclaims all warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Under no circumstances shall TippedIn, its directors, employees, or affiliates be held liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising from your use of the platform, including but not limited to financial losses resulting from blockchain network congestion, smart contract vulnerabilities, third-party wallet failures, or regulatory actions.
7. Amendments to Terms
We reserve the right to unilaterally modify these Terms at any time to reflect changes in legal, regulatory, or technical environments. We will notify active creators of material changes via email or dashboard announcements. Continued use of the platform post-modification constitutes irrevocable acceptance of the revised Terms.
